Attention:
Do not work and do not touch the Cardan Shaft while it is running. It could cause serious injury.

Always you use the individual safety equipment as security glasses, sleeves, etc.

Remember: First place, safety.

To repair the Cardan Shaft is necessary to have technical knowledge and right tools. To replace an Universal Joint without caution the Cardan Shaft could be without counterbalancing and due to that, to cause noises and vibrations.

The counterbalancing must be done on the special equipment.

Lubrication of the Universal Joints:

Before use the Universal Joint you must to lubricate it.

Please pay attention that the rollers are on the right position, never fall down on the end of the cup bearings. The grease supplied with the Universal Joint is only to fix the rollers in their right positions and to avoid corrosion.

When you lubricate the Universal Joint, the new grease must to force out the old grease through the four oil seals. When the new grease appears through the four oil seals the lubrication process is finished.

Lubrication of the Slip Stub:

You put the grease by the nipple grease which is on the body of the sleeve, until the new grease appears through the oil seal of the sleeve.

Proper Grease to Cardan Shaft

The proper grease to lubricate the Universal Joint and the components of the Cardan Shaft must be made with Lithium soap together additive EP (Extreme Pressure), grade nr. 2, as international standard NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute).

This grease is appropriate to the temperature of the Cardan Shaft when it is running, around 120 degrees. Other type of greases is not proper to that temperature and becomes liquid.

Checking the Cardan Shaft

The Cardan Shaft must not show any radial and axial clearances.

To check if the slipping between the sleeve and the slip stub shaft is OK.

To check if the bearing of the Cardan Support does not show clearances and if the rubber is not broken.

To check if the Cardan Shaft is assembled OK regarding the gear box and the rear axle shaft box.

When the truck, bus or others are running, please avoid to the use the transmission gear wheel on the neutral position. This could cause problem to the Cardan Shaft, to the Universal Joints, to the transmission system, etc, when you use suddenly the gear box of the vehicle
